Barbarian Rat Rod
This iconic 300SL has been totally refurbished underneath and has had
extensive metal repair performed, but still has the worn original
interior and drivetrain. You usually see these cars after full
restorations, and we think it is refreshing to see one with worn out
cosmetics and salvageable mechanicals. Driving a Gullwing in this
aesthetic would be fantastic! Find it available here at European Collectibles in Costa Mesa, California.
We would drive this car with the exterior just as you see it. The Ruge knock-offs are a pricey option and look great after time has dulled them. We would think about removing the bumpers altogether, and actually like the contrast of the silver under the doors from the replaced sheetmetal.
Somehow the black primer makes this car look angry like the SLR’s instead of prissy and proper like the restored cars. The car looks very complete, and the restored chassis can be seen below.
The engine is running and the car is a driver with good brakes and transmission. What a thrill it must be to drive this thing down the road.
Our favorite part is the original red interior, which looks like it was used by a coal miner for commuting. The dash is all intact, and the glass and doors are functioning.
This is a rare car and a brave undertaking if you plan to complete the restoration. We’re sure it will be returned to show condition, but it is nice to dream that someone would have other plans and drive the car without worrying about the paint finish.

Rat Rods hechos para coducirlos.
"
